Our Philosophy of Ministry:
- The purpose of meeting as a church: We believe that when we meet as a body of believers that the primary focus is to glorify God. For this reason, we try to worship in a God-centered way as opposed to a man-centered way. The church, by its very definition, is a place for believers. We do not believe that building a church to make unbelievers comfortable is biblical. We want to make anyone who comes into the church feel welcomed, but not necessarily comfortable. When the word of God is preached to sinners it is often not comfortable. Thus, all that we do flows from this biblical idea of the church.
- Preaching: We believe that expositional preaching and teaching is the best way to both glorify God and help believers to mature in their faith. God’s word is everything. The bible teaches us that saving “faith” comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17); and that believers are sanctified by God’s word (John 17:17). Expositional preaching also helps keep the teacher from preaching his own ideas.
- Prayer: We aim to make prayer a part of every service. God said that the church is to be a “house of prayer” (Matt. 21:13).
- Evangelism: We believe in evangelizing both in word and deed. We believe the best way to evangelize our community is to model the Christian life for them.
- Missions: The bible teaches that all believers are to be active in world missions by the giving of resources and through prayer. The main purpose in missions is for God to be glorified. The results of man’s efforts in missions are in the Lord’s hands. God has said that while we can plant and water only God can give the increase (1 Cor. 3:6).
- Children’s Ministry: We believe that the bible teaches that it is the parent’s responsibility to train their own children. With this in mind, we encourage and invite parents to play an active part in the children’s ministry in the church. The children stay in the service until just prior to the sermon. The children then come forward and participate in the children’s bible study question before being dismissed for their classes. We do not have children classes for children over the age of ten on Sunday mornings (We do, however, have classes for children over ten on Wednesday nights). Children of all ages are welcome to remain in the entire service with their parents.
- Music: We believe that music is another way for us to glorify God. As such, we take great care and time to be sure that the lyrics are biblically accurate and God-honoring. We do not believe that the lyrics should be man-centered, but God-centered.
- Church Government: We believe that the bible teaches that a plurality of godly mennamed eldersare to lead the church. We also believe that the congregation, under the leadership of the elders, should have a part in the decision making (Acts 6:1-7). Thus we are an elder led, congregational church.
- Service in the body: The bible teaches that all believers are given at least one spiritual gift (in addition to other talents and abilities), and should exercise these gifts in the body for God’s glory and the edification of others. The pastor/teacher is to equip all members of the body to do the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:11-16).
