We are holding Bible Study in our home on Sunday nights. We have had one person come so far. Last night the 5th we had Bible study as a family. Our guest didn’t show. We aren’t discouraged. In fact I think we are encouraged.

God is using this time to strip us of our preconceived ideas about ministry. He is teaching us to depend solely upon His word. He is building a foundation, starting with our family.

Thank you for praying for us and for encouraging us with your words and deeds. We love all of you.

Contact Kim Gelina for more information or to get a baby bottle to fill with your change.

Liberty Godparent Home

Liberty Godparent Home’s Statement of Purpose

The purpose and objectives of the Liberty Godparent Ministry are to change one life and save another. Sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ by providing a comprehensive plan for care and development for each young woman involved in a crisis pregnancy is our goal. Our strategy is based on Christ’s unconditional love and mercy. Our heart is to minister to each young woman without regard to race, color, economic status or religious affiliation. We will provide alternatives to abortion while offering crisis pregnancy counseling, a residential maternity home and a child-placing agency that ensures a source of comfort and support. The end result is to save innocent children from abortion and to help young women become morally sound, mentally strong, physically independent and spiritually courageous.

Scott has continued to make trips into the community of Glen Daniel. He is still trying for find a building. He recently found a building that was once a bar in an area he thought would be ideal. It has a price tag of about $200,000! However, Scott spoke to the agent it was listed with and told him that he wanted to put a church in it. The agent was very happy because he lives right next door to the building and didn’t want to see another bar go in. The agent said he’d speak to the owner about possibly renting it out.

Also, Scott will be training very soon to become a North American missionary. We will then begin to receive support as missionaries.

One last prayer request
Since moving here Will has left behind many of his friends and now is a little isolated from other children. He is having a difficult time adjusting. Please pray that God will help me to relay to Will the joy of sacrifice and serving. I am hoping God will send some playmates our way.

This Saturday, September 13, launches our 2008 season of OFRBC’s men’s bible study, Iron Sharpens Iron. Join us at the church at 8:00 am as we dig into the Word of God.

8:00 to 9:30 am

Contact Pastor Mike with any questions.

Photos of our final 2008 church picnic have been posted here.

By popular demand, OFRBC is changing the time of our mid-week Bible Study and Prayer Meeting. We will now begin at 6:30 pm and end at 7:30 pm. Worship team practice will move one hour earlier to 6:30 pm as well and choir practice will begin at 7:30 pm.

VBS is over and what an amazing blessing it was! God blessed in so many ways.

The missions outreach project far exceeded the goal of raising 200 donated items for disaster relief (with more than 700 items donated in total); the number of children attending Vacation Bible School was more than double what we had planned for; many visiting families attended the wrapup ceremony and picnic on Friday night—it was a great event all around.

Donald’s Mohawk

And Donald’s head getting shaved was a thoroughly enjoyable part of VBS as well. Check out the rest of the pictures in the Old Forest Road Baptist Church Photo Gallery.

And next year—make sure you’re a part of this amazing and fun week.

The literal, historical, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the vindication of Christ’s saving work on the cross. The issue is simple—no resurrection, no Christianity. For this reason, belief in the resurrection of Christ is essential in order to be a Christian.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the central miracle of the Christian faith. As the New Testament reveals, the resurrection represents the Father’s complete satisfaction in the obedience of the Son—even unto death. Sin and death do not have the final word. Indeed, they are defeated through the saving work of Christ.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead separates Christianity from all mere religion–whatever its form. Christianity without the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is merely one religion among many. “And if Christ is not risen,” said the Apostle Paul, “then our preaching is empty and your faith is in vain” [1 Corinthians 15:14]. Furthermore, “You are still in your sins!” [v. 17]. Paul could not have chosen stronger language. “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable” [v. 19].

Yet, the resurrection of Jesus Christ has been under persistent attacks since the Apostolic age. Why? Because it is the central confirmation of Jesus’ identity as the incarnate Son of God, and the ultimate sign of Christ’s completed work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. Those who oppose Christ, whether first century religious leaders or twentieth century secularists, recognize the Resurrection as the vindication of Christ against His enemies.

Those who would attack the Church and reject its gospel must direct their arrows at the most crucial truth claim of the New Testament and the disciples: That Jesus Christ, having suffered death on a cross, though sinless, having borne the sins of those He came to save, having been buried in a sealed and guarded grave, was raised by the power of God on the third day.

As Paul well understood, Christianity stands or falls with the empty grave. If Christ is not raised, we are to be pitied, for our faith is in vain. Those who would preach a resurrectionless Christianity have substituted the truth of the gospel for a lie. But, asserted Paul, Christ is risen from the dead. Our faith is not in vain, but is in the risen Lord. He willingly faced death on a cross and defeated death from the grave. The Resurrection is the ultimate sign of God’s vindication of His Son.

The great good news of the resurrection is this—those who come to Christ by faith will share in His victory over sin and death. Belief in the resurrection of Christ is clearly essential in order for one to be a Christian. The Christian church has understood this from the beginning, and the Apostle Paul left no room for doubt when he declared that those who are saved are those who confess with their lips that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead [Romans 10:9].
